Frequently asked questions

Which exchange rate does this converter use?

The euro reference rates published by the European Central Bank each business day at around 16:00 CET. Cross rates such as USD to KRW are worked out from them. The Russian ruble comes from the Central Bank of Russia, because the ECB stopped publishing it in 2022.

Why does my bank give me a different rate?

The reference rate is the mid-market rate, halfway between buying and selling. Banks and card networks usually add 1% to 3% on top, and some also charge a fixed fee. The transfer cost calculator shows how much that adds up to for your amount.

How often are the rates updated?

Every ECB business day. On weekends and TARGET holidays there is no new rate, so the converter shows the last published one and names its date next to the result.

Can I type 1,000 with a comma?

Yes. 1,000, 1 000 and 1000 all work, and so does a decimal such as 1,000.50. The result updates as you type.
